This page has been inspired by the fact that there are others interested in Softy and have written articles, made observations, and created help aides to make working with Softy easier. It is a known fact that the creator of Softy passed on more than a year ago, but his wife has kept Softy available to the public. It was, to my knowledge, the first font editor that was cheap enough for the common man to take a stab at making his own fonts.

If you have visited my web site, you know that I have tried to help individual people to overcome some problems when they were making fonts for their use. If I was successful in finding their problem, I would then add a page describing what I found and add it to the menu under Other Findings. I could make that a link to the pages, but this is about others who have something to contribute to better understanding of how to make Softy work. One such person sent me an article that they had written up on Softy and I thought that it should be shared with those who might find it of interest. So, his being the first, you will find the link on the left. The article is about understanding how Softy uses grids and the construction of grids.

This finishes something that got started with Beginning Basics I hope that it answers enough of your questions so that you try Softy. I realize with the death of the author, that there is a good chance that the program will not have any further updates, but it works quite well and for the price, I don't think you can go wrong. You can both Create and or Customize fonts. What more could you ask ? . I realize, that it is not a fully functional program but if you follow the instructions you find here, I don't think you will have many problems and if you like to make things for yourself, Here's your chance to make your own fonts too.

I have been asked for help from time to time and I thought If I found an answer, Maybe I could place the finding up so as to help someone else. You will find several pieces (where I got lucky) under the "Other Findings" button.

There have been some changes to my menu. If you select the " Beginning Basics" or "Other Findings" a second menu will appear. You can always get back to the main screen by clicking on the red Softy Logo from these two extra menus.
